Mauser Kar98

The Mauser Kar98 is a weapon in Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 and Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.

General Information[]

The Mauser Kar98 is available to the Rifleman and Elite Rifleman classes for the Axis team. Upon reaching veterancy, it also becomes available for the Allied team.

The Kar98 is a stripper clip-fed, five round bolt action rifle. It fires powerful rounds, enough to almost always kill with one shot and experiencing almost no bullet drop up to a considerable range. Its sights can be set between 100 and 2000 metres. It is virtually identical to its counterpart, the MN9130 Rifle.

When completely empty, it reloads using its stripper clip. Reloading a partially empty clip involves inserting bullets one at a time. If a bullet is already chambered, then it is lost when the bolt is pulled back; reloading when two bullets have been fired, for example, results in a bullet lost through bolting followed by inserting three bullets instead of two. This problem can be solved by using manual bolting and not bolting after a shot has been fired.

As with all other bolt action rifles, the Kar98's weakness lies in its slow rate of fire--accuracy is a must for effectiveness, and even in the best of situations it is ill-suited to fighting groups of enemies. When upgraded, it recieves a bayonet, making it more effective in a melee.

Upgrades[]

Level 25: Bayonet

Level 50: Removes the sight hood (the ghost ring on top of the iron sights), marginally improving the clearness of the sights. Also gives the rifle a winter trigger guard; a purely cosmetic attachment.
