The MP 40 is the submachine gun of the Axis team, and available to the Assault, Elite Assault, Engineer, Squad Leader, and Commander classes. Upon reaching veterancy, it is unlocked for the Allied team, as well.
The MP 40 fires moderately weak rounds at a rather low rate for a fully automatic weapon. On the other hand, it has very controllable recoil (particularly at higher levels), making it competitive at mid to even long range. It sports a 32 round magazine, allowing it to maintain suppressive fire for a high amount of time considering its low rate of fire. Players spawn with five magazines. Its sights are dialed at 100 metres by default, but can be adjusted to 200 metres.
Compared to its Allied counterpart, the PPSH-41, the MP 40 has a much lower rate of fire and is unable to fire semi-auto; however, it is much more controllable, making it more competitive at mid to long range, as well as more suited to suppression due to the longer amount of time it can sustain fire.
- Level 25: Dual Mags. This upgrade gives the MP 40 a secondary magazine. When the first magazine is depleted, the player quickly switches to the second. Effectively, this doubles the amount of fire the MP 40 can unleash before it has to reload. Pressing 6 (by default) manually switches to the reserve magazine without having to wait for the first to deplete. Unfortunately, the dual mags upgrade increases reloading time as the player has to reload each magazine individually, however the switch and reloading is done manually, which means that in emergencies, one can simply opt to use it as a regular mp 40 and just reload between every 32 round without having to switch.
